Point of View in Stories and Presentations

Hi all,

Today in class you were given a few minutes to go over your presentations before presenting to the class.  Your energy was incredible throughout this assignment.  Great work, everyone!

We finished up class by taking some notes on point of view and did a mini lesson on some grammar issues that I've noticed popping up.

See you next week!  I hope you have a Happy Halloween!

"The Veldt"

Hi all,

Today in class we started with a homework check of your vocab words in preparation for your vocab quiz tomorrow.

We then continued with our discussion questions about "The Veldt" from last class.

  1. Describe the goals and motivations of Peter and Wendy. What will they likely do with David? Why?
  2. What foreshadowing is there of George and Lydia’s fate? Give examples of ways in which they raise their children badly.
  3. How does Bradbury build atmosphere in the story?
  4. How are the children portrayed in the story.

We finished class by watching a video version of the story, and I showed you a music video that uses the story as inspiration.

Here is a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erkL_IqlupE

"The Veldt"

Hi all,

Today in class I reminded you of the importance of checking our class website.  Please remember to check the website daily, as too many of you are forgetting due dates due to band days in between English days.  Let's work on that!

Yesterday, there was some confusion over the homework check day for the vocab words.  I will be doing the new homework check next Wednesday.  You must have all definitions and sentences completed by that day.

Vocab quiz is next Thursday!

Today we read the short story, "The Veldt."  You then got into groups to discuss the following questions and report back to the class:

-Describe the goals and motivations of Peter and Wendy. What will they likely do with David? Why?-What foreshadowing is there of George and Lydia’s fate? Give examples of ways in which they raise their children badly.
-How does Bradbury build atmosphere in the story?
-How are the children portrayed in the story?

No handouts today!

Homework:

1.  Complete vocab definitions and sentences for homework check on Wednesday.
2.  Study for vocab quiz on Thursday.
